The Brief
Robert Wilson & Son is a painting and decorating contractor based in Rutherglen, working across Scotland on commercial and domestic projects. Established in 1938, the business has a long history to communicate alongside the practical details a prospective client needs: services, sector experience, project work and who to contact.
The website brings those strands together in a more considered digital presence. It gives main contractors, facilities teams and homeowners clear routes into the business, while making room for the people and experience behind the work.
Creative Direction
A deep navy foundation, restrained gold accents and generous spacing give the site a confident, established feel. Expressive serif headlines sit alongside straightforward body typography, balancing the company's heritage with a contemporary layout.
Large image areas and numbered sections create a clear rhythm through the homepage. The design moves from a direct explanation of the offer into company background, services and evidence of delivery, with enquiry routes available throughout.
What Was Built
The website gives each part of the business a dedicated place:
- Company history and an introduction to the contractor's approach
- Painting, decorating and finishing services, including ames taping, airless spraying and planned maintenance
- Sector information covering commercial construction, education, healthcare, sports venues, heritage buildings and domestic property
- A project portfolio with individual pages for work such as Chryston High School, Kadans Health Innovation Hub and Aspire Lounge at Edinburgh Airport
- Accreditations and contract assurance information
- Management team profiles connecting names and experience to the business
- Clear contact and enquiry routes, alongside direct telephone and email details
The homepage acts as an introduction to this wider structure. Visitors can get an overview quickly, then move into the service, sector or project detail relevant to their own requirements.
Design Rationale
For a contractor serving different audiences, clarity matters as much as visual polish. Separating services from sectors helps visitors understand both what the company does and the environments it works in. Project pages provide a place to explore scope and progress, while accreditations and team profiles make supporting information easier to find.
The result is a website designed to make an established business easier to understand and approach. Its hierarchy connects heritage with present-day capability, giving prospective clients useful context before they start a conversation.
